The process of composting uses the natural process of decay to change organic wastes (i.e., grass clippings, food scraps, and leaves) into a valuable, humus-like material known as compost.
Decay Process Factors
Building a compost pile or bin allows you to influence the natural decay process by controlling the following factors:
Air (oxygen)
Water
Food
Temperature
Speeding Up the Process
By managing these factors, you can speed up the otherwise naturally slow decay process.
